מחר, כבכל שנה ערב יום העצמאות- נעלה לבית הקברות. שוב לחוש אותם רגעים מיוחדים במינם של התייחדות עם זכרם של הבנים שהמשק והעם שכלו. תוגת הדומייה הזאת נשארת בי במשך כל החג. ניתן לומר שאוהב אני את הרגעים הללו יותר מאשר את השמחה והעליזות בחג. יש בכך חדירה לעומק המהות של חיינו, מתוך שאתה רואה את אלה שהלכו מהחיים- אתה חודר אל תוכנם של חייך אתה. הלב נוטה להרהר ולחיות עם אלה שהלכו ממך- יותר מאשר עם אלה שחיים לצידך. אמת עצובה היא זו. מזדהה אתה עם אנשים לאחר שהלכו והותירו בבואה שלהם בנפשך- הרבה יותר מאשר כשהם חיים. אינני יודע אם מביא לכם הדבר הקלה, אולם דעו- שמטה אני שכם למעמסת הכובד של תוגתם- ועצבוני רב. ואף שקשה לי- אתכם אני ברגעים כאלה.
