Chelm.org's Sukkah Building Instructions

PATH : Chelm -> Jewish -> Holidays -> Sukkot -> building
The sukkahs on this page were designed so that people who do not have much construction experience could build a sukkah with out much cost or skill. Both designs are for 8 foot by 8 foot structures. Both are relatively sturdy, go up easily (in 40 minutes), take down easily (again in 40 minutes) and store in a relatively compact space. Both require about 70-80 dollars in hardware and wood.

The first design is a more standard design. Built with 2x4's in a traditional construction frame, it is very strudy and heavy. It is a functional design that can easily be modified for expansion.

The second design is more elegant a design. It requires very fewer parts, no up front construction and no tools (no hammers, screwdrivers, etc. - A sharp utility knife is optional). It is easier to erect and dismantle, and stores in less space. It is also more attractive. The only disadvantage is that it is lighter (and thus marginally less sturdy) and less extendable beyond 8x8.
